Does MCT powder break a fast?Updated 22 days ago
Yes. MCT powder provides energy, so at a basic level, it will break your fast. How much of an impact that has depends on why you're fasting. If you're fasting for anti-ageing or deep healing reasons, energy restriction is important for promoting autophagy, and because MCT oil is a pure fat, its calorie density will interrupt that process.
That said, MCT powder shouldn't raise insulin for long enough to affect the health benefits if you're fasting for metabolic reasons. If you're intermittent fasting on a ketogenic diet, MCTs won't break your ketosis. In fact, they can help boost ketone production.
Acacia fibre is a complex polysaccharide that humans can't digest (only the bacteria in our gut can), so at the low levels used in this product, we don't believe it will affect your fast.
